I know. I've been asking myself the same thing.
Why did I watch it? Well, literally to kill time. And it's not as dead as I thought it would be, hence this post.
I didn't really want to watch this movie. The trailer of the first movie that my brother showed reminds me that the whole idea is as, or more Implausible than James Cameron's Avatar. But it turns out, it did manage to evoke some emotions and thoughts from me. Mainly, that war is inevitable.
Peace-loving is how I would describe myself. War is just wrong. It shouldn't even exist. Mostly I'm oblivion to any kind of war between countries. But watching this movie, I'm all: "Never mind between different species. We have so much conflict between two people, love is nearly inconceivable. So much conflict within ourselves, too. It's a wonder there's peace at all."
So, there's that. The movie has great soundtrack, you can actually fear the apes. And they did limit the apes' intelligence in clever ways, you won't see them firing shotguns with each other (a good thing).
