In the way I enjoy reading Cecilia Ahern's books, I love it when a touch of 'magic' is added into romance movies. The three above are all feel-good movies, with a little comedy added - but all also didn't leave the essence of life behind. A couple of them got me crying the first time I watched. And I do love Mark Ruffalo.
Just Like Heaven (2005) Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) is an almost-too-dedicated doctor, working hours into the night and has no time for herself, much less for romance. Her friend attempts to match her up with this guy, and she was reluctantly on her way to meet up with them - and then the car crash. Months passed, and she floats around the places she's familiar with, unaware that her body is in a state of coma. Meanwhile, David (Mark Ruffalo), an apparently hard-done-by guy, is just looking for an apartment with a good couch, in which he can drink beer and watch TV and just ignore everything around and inside himself. Well, guess whose apartment does have a good couch, and is up for lease as the previous tenant appears to have slim-to-none chance of waking up?
50 First Dates (2004) What would you do if you met the girl of your dreams, you both connected in such a way that you thought, this is her, and you could see she feels the exact same way - but she forgets about you the next day? No, she's not a chronic man-eater, but a patient of a rare brain disorder. So she'll forget you the next day after that, too. Get some tips from Henry the Hawaiian playboy (Adam Sandler) as he tries to make Lucy (Drew Barrymore) fall in love with him all over again, everyday.
13 Going On 30 (2004) Jenna, a 13 year old girl, desperately wants to grow up and fit in - she can't wait to be thirty, flirty and thriving, like the secure, beautiful, independent women she sees in her favourite magazine. Whatever her best friend Matt told her, her 13th birthday turns out to be a nightmare. Jenna locks herself up in the basement, crying. She closed her eyes and wished she would just pass this horrible state of a teenage girl's fate, and fast forward to be a successful girl of her dream - and she did. She wakes up 17 years later, in a Fifth Avenue apartment, working as an editor for her favorite magazine, with some credit cards to match. Enjoy watching a 13 year old soul acting out in a 30 year old body as Jenna learns the hard way what's really important for her.
