The only choice I have for faking being British back in the days, was listening to Coldplay. And if there's anything from the UK that's identical to 'young' (even the rock bands), it didn't reach my ears. Sure, as early as the 2000's my girl friends were fawning over Westlife, but they're officially Irish, and, yes, still old.
Sooooooooo glad that British music is coming into the 'cool' again! Everybody knows Grammy-award-winning Adele, of course (turns out her music's too melancholy for my taste). I thought the The Script was American, the sound of them! But no, they're very very British if you listen carefully to the lyrics, and so easy to listen to.
Today you could listen to John Newman's 'Love Me Again' in 977 Today's Hits, which is fun. The first time I listened to him was when iTunes gave away the song as free Single of the Week - as well as Ed Sheeran ('The A Team' was my very first iTunes Free SotW - love, love, love Ed Sheeran - think ) & Conor Maynard ('the British Justin Beiber' singing 'Animal' - his lyrics are kinda too old for that baby face, but vocal wise, he is the real thing). If you haven't registered to iTunes for the sake of its free SotW, now's probably the time to do it. Not every week's freebie is a goodie, but there's some gems once in a while, and you could get introduced to some cool new music!

Now I'm rising from the ground / rising up to you |
'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street
So I'm not moving, I'm not moving
The Man Who Can't Be Moved - The Script
I dare you to let me be / your one and only |
Your heart's against my chest / Your lips pressed to my neck
I've fallen for your eyes / but they don't know me yet
And the feeling I forget / I'm in love now
Kiss me like you wanna be loved / wanna be loved / wanna be loved
This feels like falling in love / falling in love / falling in love
Kiss Me - Ed Sheeran
Aaaaand I'll leave Conor Maynard for your own follow-up. He's kinda PG-13 :p . Oh! And don't forget to check out Taio Cruz for R&B reference & Ellie Goulding for really cool alternative pop. And no, I don't want to mention One Direction & The Wanted ;)
